We have seen several reverses here ending in AVGG abbreviating Augustorum indicating there were two emperors at that time. The double G is commonly used in this way. I could not pass up the following Valerian which uses the plural abbreviation CONCOR LEGG but this time for the word legionum (Concord of the legions). Does anyone have another example on a coin of the plural abbreviation other than AVGG or CAESS?
Does the triple-plural "AVGGG" count as a different plural abbreviation? I am, of course, referring to one of Carausius' issues in the name of Diocletion or Maximian with that triple-plural, attempting to lump himself in with the "legitimate" emperors. Example struck by Carausius in the name of Diocletion below.
