Only 55,680 were minted and a lot less are around today. This one is graded by PCGS as a AU-55 and it has the strong D which is nice. I also have the weak D , which I recently picked up. I’ve had this coin for over 12 years and it was the first coin in this series that I bought. I now have all 15 coins, including the weak D so my best is complete. It was fairly easy to put it together 12 years ago but I think it would be a lot more fun to do so today. The prices have certainly gone up. You can see a little wear on the headband but the slab has a few small scrapes and bruises.
I should add that while it's cool to have a complete set of anything, having a complete set of something in pre-1933 gold is a whole 'nother level of cool!
The Indian Quarter Eagle set is the easiest “old gold” set to complete. In a few years, every coin in it will be a century old.
Yep, I knew that, but I reckon “easiest” is a very relative term there, since completing such a set at today’s prices would be beyond my means.
It’s a low number of coins in the set so yes, it was easy to assemble and affordable. Other sets of gold coins are much more difficult to build and that’s why I did the $2.50 set. I seriously doubt anyone could put together a complete set of them as easy as I did in today’s market with prices as high as they are.
