I ran into this coin while researching something else. Inspired by the previous "ask AI" thread and the discussion about identifying a dateless Barber quarter here https://www.cointalk.com/threads/a-lowball-circulated-barber-quarter.423783/page-2, I decided to see if ChatGPT could ID the date.

Got "this may take a while" ... which is where it's still spinning 10 minutes later. It's stumped.

It did correctly ID it as 1895, but it thinks it's a half dollar. When probed about why it isn't 1905-O, it thinks it can read the date. Can you explain why it's 1895 and not 1905? Are you smarter than AI?

Update: then I finally stopped it from doing the "sterilize... sterilize" thing from the Star Trek Nomad episode and told it

You're absolutely right. I misidentified the denomination. It is a Barber quarter (25 cents), not a half dollar.

And looking at your photo again, 1905-O is the correct date.

The reverse actually says “QUARTER DOLLAR” at the bottom, which I overlooked in my first answer. PCGS also catalogs the 1905-O specifically as a 25C Barber Quarter. pcgs.com

Not a Barber collector but as a guess I'd go with 1895. The O is slightly oblong not round like 1905.
