This quarter was mixed in a foreign lot that I purchased. Looks like it could be an O mint mark. What do you think about the bottom of the reverse, is that just a case of excessive wear in only that region, or maybe due to something else like a grease filled die or flawed planchet? Rest of the coin looks VG to me.

might be a Large "O" Rev. D. Check for a die scratch between star 8 and the Head of Liberty on the obverse. According to Flynn, the coin has "open" claws, this too is indicative of a 43-O. Too bad the mintmark site is so managled. I don't see how it could be used for identification; at least by picture. James Thanks for posting
You’re welcome! I saw that there was a large O variety, but this one didn’t look large enough to me, if it’s an O at all. I’ll look closer near the star as you mentioned.
