This quarter was mixed in a foreign lot that I purchased. Looks like it could be an O mint mark. What do you think about the bottom of the reverse, is that just a case of excessive wear in only that region, or maybe due to something else like a grease filled die or flawed planchet? Rest of the coin looks VG to me.

    Horrendous excessive wear IMHO

It’s certainly in the right area, but I don’t think it’s an O Mint mark.

Fun coin because if it is an O. It's got a bit better return.

Ps I am on the side of damage,

I hear ya! Like I said, this one was a random surprise, so even the silver value alone is gravy. Just had to put it out there to get some second opinions. Thanks!

might be a Large "O" Rev. D. Check for a die scratch between star 8 and the Head of Liberty on the obverse.
According to Flynn, the coin has "open" claws, this too is indicative of a 43-O. Too bad the mintmark site is so managled. I don't see how it could be used for identification; at least by picture. James

    You’re welcome!
I saw that there was a large O variety, but this one didn’t look large enough to me, if it’s an O at all. I’ll look closer near the star as you mentioned.
