I started collecting Lincoln's in the late 50's. Had many periods of non activity in later years. Being a retired corporate controller I have created a breakdown PDF of the 62,875 Lincoln's in my hoard. Is it permissible for me to post the PDF and ask what would a reasonable amount would be to ask for them? Being I'm in my 70's I don't want to burden my family with them, just my not complete Lincoln collection itself.

Welcome to CT hifilar! Being a hoarder myself, I would love to see, but let the experts chime in on the topic.

Astounding. Not so much the quantity - there are Lincoln collectors out there who can match that - but that you've spent so_much_time consistently accumulating and keeping them under accounting control. Your obsessive attitude warms my heart. :)

A direct offer of sale violates the terms and purpose of this subforum. That said, this is the place where one is expected to be asking help regarding values, so as long as you characterize it in that fashion - as you've obviously done - it is quite in keeping with the spirit of this place. It's a sort of fine line to walk.

It bears mentioning first that there is very little profit to be made in attempting to liquidate large holdings in one piece; that becomes more of a wholesale type of offering for which you could not expect nearly the individual retail value of the coins. Obviously many of them will only liquidate appropriately in lot sales, but the more granular a fashion in which you approach the liquidation, the more you will realize from it. And there are certainly going to be a large number of pieces whose best value is to be obtained by individual sale.

I hesitate to recommend posting the .pdf itself, for security reasons, depending on where you're hosting it and what sort of personal data might be derived from it.

Since you are a collector of Lincolns, you probably realize each coins possible value due to personal knowledge. You know the better years, mm, grades ~even if estimate~, ebay auction price summaries, etc. I would pick the best 10 or 20 , you have and seek info on those. That would give you a ball-park range of total for your records and to pass to the family ( in case of death). Most of the members here are very honest, including the dealers, but the site can not vouch for one or all. Once you have 10 posts, you can list in the classifieds and see the response. We do limit B/S/T posts, as the forum is primarily education rather than sales, but many use it because it is free to members within the rules.

Most likely the file would be of size that the forum software would not allow, so listing should be in subsections. My best advice ( I followed it myself) would be to encourage a close relative to join you in the hobby, so they could carry on. To them it would not be a burden, but a joy. Many of us are your age or older, and have had to face very similar situations, Welcome !, Jim

Thanks for responding. Actually I put down the wrong total. It's 70,142. The PDF is only one page most likely less than a .jpg. The problem is about 30 years ago a dealer went thru and it was cherry picked! So it's not going to have "great stuff". I think there's a 31D somewhere in it. There's 286 rolls (most from the 80's) not sorted in it. No family member has expressed interest. One of my daughters took all of the stamps I had collected. I do follow prices and sell on eBay, but thats vacuum tubes, old radios and hifi amps.

That's a bummer that no one in your family has expressed interest in the collection. I wish someone in my family was a coin collector when they were young.

I wish some one would leave me 70,000 plus cents. It would not be a burden..
