Wow! Quite the stunning upgrade! I'm first to vote and reply, so I stuck my neck out and said MS64. Hmm. Second vote required, re. the CAC bean or no. OK, let me think... I was gonna change to MS63 CAC, but let's be optimistic and stick to 64. And give it the bean. So MS64 CAC.
BIG upgrade. Not just in technical grade (whatever that turns out to be), but noticeably in eye appeal as well. Mind you, I’m not calling your old coin ugly. I just find it to be rather average on the eye appeal front. It doesn’t stir those pangs of envy in me like the new one does.
Only thing I don’t love is the spot below Star 1 on the new coin. But I could totally live with that.
From the pictures and I like it as a 64. And here lately it is nothing but a wild guess if it is CAC'ed or not CAC'ed. It is nice even without a little green bean - but it should have one. I like it. Nice pickup no matter what.
Pretty incredible original coin. Hope you can keep both. I voted 63-CAC for what it is worth on new coin. james
I voted MS-63, no CAC. Sorry, the fly specks would make it a pass for me. It could also be an MS-62 because of the specks. I would say still no CAC. I replaced this one, graded MS-64, for type ... With this one, graded MS-65, CAC. I still have both, if you liked the first one better. The biggest problems I find with this type is weak strikes and clash marks.
I applaud you all for your conservative grading ethos. Nevertheless, this coin graded MS-64 CAC. It's not so lonely out on that limb now, @lordmarcovan. Unlike our impeccable @johnmilton, I don't find clash marks to be a problem aesthetically. And, if weak strikes are a characteristic of a particular die marriage, then it's just part of the fabric of the coin. GTGs like this one emphasize that coin grading is both objective and subjective, in the sense that our grading judgements are subject to what we personally find to be eye-appealing. When you are a type collector who is looking for the best image of a design that you can buy at a reasonable price, early die states are more desirable than late die states. Many clash marks or die deterioration marks look like a horn coming out of Ms. Liberty’s bust. I’ve seen many of those coins over 50+ years of looking at them, and wanted to avoid them.
