AV Laurel ND Third Coinage "Lis" mm London Mint James I 1603-25 soft strike/ hard to get in decent quality.
Thanks Mat! James I is one tough hombre to find perfect gold coinage/ most are poorly struck/ seen lots of wear and tear from everyday commerce. That piece came from St. James auction/ described as a pleasing Good Very Fine/ but I have seen slabbed ones graded as MS-63 that looked worse for wear/ but also realized triple what I paid.
Just came across this thread. Not sure what qualifies as British Empire anymore because it became defunct about 70 years ago. A lot of these coins are newer than that. So I am guessing any coins from any country which was in the empire is fair game. Here is my first offering.
1 Penny, Issued by, New Brunswick, Canada, 1843 Minted by Boulton, Watt Company, Soho, Birmingham This issue was authorised by the local legislature but not authorised by the Colonial Office. 498,576 pieces were struck and placed into circulation in New Brunswick. A second issue dated 1854 passed through the correct channels in Britain at which time this issue was called 'irregular'. (description from the website of Museums Victoria in Australia)
