New eBay policy on Coins sold for more than $500?

    Question,
    Who is the authenticator ? A company somewhere ?
    PCGS and NGC coins on ebay are being sent to the "authenticator"
    Why ? Because of fake holders ?

    I think I'm done purchasing 16d dimes sans for one.
    All are pcgs holders.

    After viewing the listing for the fake Canadian dollar the seller sent me an offer of $1,200, half off!
    I sent him a message that I don't buy a counterfeit coins at any price.

    eBay is withering on the vine, and not worth even considering as a selling platform. I well remember the days when having an eBay store cost only $25 monthly, and permitted a large number of free listings monthly, and cost only 6% in final value fees. I no longer know what a store costs, but the final value fees are now over 13%!

    Even worse, eBay misrepresents its growth using revenue figures instead of dollars in sales.

    While sales continue to decline, its revenues appear to be growing today for a couple of reasons . . . because it leaves the door open to sales of counterfeit merchandise, and (2) because it keeps much more of what sellers used to get back if a customer returned an item.

    I predict he counterfeits will come back to hit their revenue in a huge way . . . with a Class Action.

    Raising their fees in the face of declining business? . . . These folks don't even recognize that they are in a death spiral!

    I had thoughts of using eBay to sell off lower value coins. After doing the math, it would be a waste of time.

    This sounds like a nightmare? So I would think this will up the cost of shipping to ebay and then ebay shipping (with insurance, of course) to the buyer....

    Another thing is distance to pcgs.
    Buy from the east live in the east it will have to go across country twice.

    I call BS as well, especially the lengthy commentary about how much ebay cares about this. As I said in an earlier post, they could easily flag any coins selling for less than say 10% of their market value, or coins with "replica", "tribute", etc right in the listing descriptions. For the latter, they are not even enforcing their own policy, which has been in place for many years.

    Nowhere does he address why they're doing this now. Something must have inspired them financially.

    I'm a frequent flyer of eBay (buying only) and I've noticed the volume of listings "seem" to be down the past 6 months. If buyers are getting more skeptical, then sellers are likely not getting their BIN prices and auctions are getting lowballed more often. That leads to sellers finding other avenues, and it hurts eBay's bottom line which is based on commissions. It definitely is in their best interest to have customer confidence in their site. Can they make it work?? That's the million dollar question.

    Bought from ebay yesterday, shipping included to the authenticator and then to me.
    Will let yous know when I get it.
    Maybe it will come with an ebay "real" sticker.

    Sorry, I meant the results of the additional ebay auth. steps. As a long time seller I'm concerned about how much more travel time is tacked on.
