Stopped by the shop today and was pleased to walk away with these three. I've been looking for a solid upgrade for my 7070 slot for the arrows date, and found this beauty awaiting me. He also had a nice pick of Morgans, where I found this 79-O and got it to fill that hole in my albums. Lastly, I saw this little CWT and decided to bring it home with me. He also had another so-called dollar that I eventually decided passing on, but I might very well stop by in a day or two and grab that. HK-281, cleaned but still with great eye appeal. Out of picture slots, so I'll see if I took any in the shop and upload them in the comments.
The 1854-O is a very nice, well struck AU. They are often found in nice condition and this is another example of that pattern.
Great coins for the album! Nice photos, too. I like that SCD, as well. They produced a great set of postage stamps for that exposition, too.
I did end up going back and getting that! This is after an acetone bath. I don't know what is going on here with the rim and edge. Any ideas? It's almost like it was reeded and someone didn't like that part so they removed them lol!
The overlay on the collar of the rim appears as though it was pounded, in my opinion. otherwise, very nice commemorative coin, congrats.
Sign me up for the 1854-O bandwagon. Love the doubling. Many years ago I didn't understand the minting process as well as I do now and thought I had found a rare variety. Speaking of variety. I have been out of circulation for awhile but I took a shot at guessing what WB number your coin is. I understand if this is something you prefer to diuscover on your own. Also, MY guess could easily be wrong. Had fun trying though. Congrats on a great coin. James
OK. Remember, rusty and old, but I used the size and location of the mintmark to come up with Reverse I. It was only used for one variety so that would make it a WB-20. I have no thin skin if someone else knows better and hope I am giving you correct information. There are a LOT of 54-O varieties and die marriages. James
Also, if you get a chance, could you take a magnified look at the left side of the obverse from the 1 in 1854 going up towards the first few stars on the left. The picture is too dark there for me to see but Obverse 14 is suppose to have a light die crack running thru that area. James
Without getting it out for more pics (currently putting some finishing touches on ribs for dinner) here's a screenshot zoomed in at the first star. There's a small die crack there, but I'll get to looking closer soon
