Do any forum members happen to have Spink auction catalogs from 1972 or 1973? The NNP does not have any listed prior to 1978.
The first UK one in their sole name was 11/10/1978. Before that they did joint sales with Glens from 1974 on, eg. The gold sale in November that year in large format. I also have a few other sales in Switzerland, such as Leu-Spink 26/4/1978 (Pellegrino World Gold), another in Zurich on the 6/6/78 and one in Geneva on 26/4/74. World gold tended to go to Switzerland for obvious reasons. I have a spare copy of the first which is disintegrating, but complete. I don't have any others in my library, which isn't to say there are none, but would only be on an ad-hoc basis. All other things went through the circular and may or may not be named. I assume you have Manville and Robertson, which lists British auction catalogues as far back as they could find from the early 18th century onwards until 1984. Excellent reading, even if only a list, as it gives the number of lots, content types, and where possible, the vendors' names. It also has an appendix with collections that were not named, but dispersed privately through various dealers.
I was unaware that Spink did not hold standalone auctions before 1978. That certainly explains why I couldn’t find them. I also do not have a copy of Manville and Robinson. I’ll add that to my shortlist of books to buy. Thank you for the new information! I suppose I need to refocus my effort on the circulars for 1972 and 1973. Of course, this assumes those dates are correct. I’m working with very limited information, but the medal is rare enough to stand out.

I will be in London in a few weeks. I plan to contact them closer to that time. Digital access would be ideal as my time in London is limited.
Stack's has an extensive online archive of their auction catalogs, which is why I thought maybe Spink has a library of theirs. You could also try the ANA library - they have a ton of stuff and were quite helpful to me.
