I have this quarter that multiple self checkouts will not take. It looks normal to me. I don't have a scale that is sensitive enough to see if it is off weight. Compared to others, the size seam correct. Odd.

Self checkout paying with cash have all kinds of problems. I won't use the cash only line.

I rarely have change in my pockets. I use a rewards card for 99% of my purchases. Ya gotta be a fool not to, they build that into the price of goods you know.:D

Self-checkouts and CoinStar reject slots are the only places I get change any more.

Maybe wrong planchet? What's it weigh and is it magnetic?

Not magnetic. When I hold it next to another quarter, there is nothing obviously different. Do some of these machines use a photo to compare? Maybe that one design is not in the system. They don't work like that way as far as I know.

Nah, done on weight and size.

And electromagnetic behavior. They go past a magnet and that's supposed to slow them down a certain amount (based on conductivity of the metal). If it slows down too much or not enough, it gets rejected.

At least, that's what I've seen in discussions of these mechanisms - I don't work on the machines myself...

Had something like that in vegas just last week. I had a couple of 100 dollar bills slot machines just did not want to take. Took them to the first redemption machine I saw and got 20's for em with no problem. And the first time I ran into this I tried the same new crisp 100 at 3 different casinos, before I tried the change redemption machines. Kind of funny.
