2026 Reverse Proof Peace Silver Dollar. The first one I received from the US Mint appeared to have a smudged fingerprint on the bright cheek & neck. It was hard to see, but something seemed amiss. I have other reverse proofs without such a discrepancy. I exchanged it for a replacement. This one appeared, with the naked eye or a magnifier, to have a spec of dust on the inside of the plastic or on the coin itself. Can't tell. From the attached photo, see inside the red circle. That looks more like a divot in the metal. Hate to return it again even though it's a bit bothersome. Is this considered acceptable for a $173 US Mint proof coin? Thanks.
At $173 I would have passed on the coin all together. As a reverse proof I would think that anything on the surface would stand out like a sore thumb, I would call it a disappointment but not enough to keep returning it for more money.
I stopped buying proofs from the mint many years ago when I received one with grease smudges on some of the coins. I returned it and received a new set with smudges on different coins. I suspected they kept the returned sets to send to people who returned sets for replacement, although I have no "proof" of that. Even then it was too much money just to get damaged goods.
I’d return it and ask for a refund. It has one large divot that you circled but it looks like a number of small ones all over the surface of the coin. I’d also stop buying coins from the mint.
