Can you tell that this coin photo was AI generated?

Okay technically it isn't fully AI-generated, but it was upscaled & generated based on a real coin listed in a 1988 Stack's Auction Catalog. [Lot #995]

I guess I can tell that it’s not an image taken directly of a coin. There’s no depth or character. Hard to describe. It still feels like an image of a printed image.

 

I would have said something looks a little off somehow, but I don't think I'd have immediately concluded AI was involved. Like KBBPLL said, it looks like it's a picture of a picture.

 

I would have to spend some time looking at it to be suspicious. Some of the lettering on the reverse is flawed, most notably the second "A" in "AMERICA". If you posted it in a casual thread, I probably wouldn't have guessed.

 

Would have fooled me, but not a coin I am familiar with. James

 

Definitely a buck lister! One can only wish.

 

Only a question of time when crooks use AI to mass produce ultra high quality counterfeits.
