When it comes to tough coins and key dates, chances have become better than even that they are fakes. It's sad, but it is what it is. Caveat Emptor.

I am pretty sure that the V75 Privy's were incuse.

 

Seems like the Secret Service might pay more attention to these since it’s currently circulating coinage.

 

The Secret Service no longer monitors US Coins anymore. I called their field office about a year ago and that's what the agent told me. I was inquiring about their policy on eBay fakes.

 

Was that specific to collectible coins though, or currently circulating too? Somebody making these could easily flood thousands of dollars worth into circulation, like the fake loonies in Canada. You’d think SS would take it seriously.

 

I don't know, to be honest. He told me they only investigated paper currency. I guess smalls may not be worth their time considering all of the rest of their responsibilties? (in other words, not an efficient use of resources).

 

Yes, they were! I've read that the July 4th privy marks were in relief, but I also see a couple sites saying they're incuse. Surely one of our members have one? If you do, is it R or I?

What I don't understand is it looks like the seller is basically taking pocket change and asking hundreds of dollars for each coin and has a 100% seller rating. With a couple hundred sales. Are there really that many dumb

 

I'm no expert at deciphering ebay but from what I can tell they've only sold 7 items, only one feedback from the past 12 months, so the rest of the 297 feedback must be as a buyer? (Aside - what made me chuckle is that I was in Thailand a couple months ago so now ebay is showing me prices in baht. Their fabulous In Cod error is 26,256.00.)

Tell me again how that's supposed to work? A straw buyer pays for their fabulous error coin using their own illegal cash and then they claim it's from coin sales with their bank or the IRS?
