I change my CNG bidder handle fairly often and never use "TIF". Once I used the handle ClioPleaseDoNotBidOnThis... and it worked .
That's a good strategy as I think Clio is on to me, or I'm paranoid . He took a few of my coins away in the last auction. Next auction, I'll use a different handle...
I have very few computer-skills, including changing my passwords and changing my username ... oh, but everything else in my life is fricken random!! Oh, and thanks to any of you that have notified me when we're bidding on a coin-target (as I stated earlier, always feel free to contact me and we'll usually determine a mutually satisfying outcome ... usually)
If I know the bidderd handle thats what I do. Oh, and thanks for those that do play nice or atleast civil
I saw that amulet. Had I bid and won I think my wife would've promtly took and added to her stuff, lol.
Coingrats on the win on Triskeles. I wonder how many CT members were bidding against each other? Now that I think about it, maybe we should all create an ID with CT in it so we know.
@Smojo: Congrats on the win. That's a really nice little wolf! @TIF: Excellent little scarab! That reverse is wonderful!
Great score Dave! I don't know if you've acquired a coin this small yet, but you will be amazed at how much detail and character the ancient die cutters managed to squeeze into a few millimeters.
I have a few. The Pisidia Selge from you recently. I tried this morning for pics but the light wasn't quite right. But your pic here. A Macedon hemiobol head of ass. It's in my coins to rephoto stash. I've shared it before.
That it does, I've always found them humerous. I have been lazily looking for the type for a few months. When I saw you offering I jumped on it. If I remember right I was the first taker that week. I usually hem haw around a day or 2 then bid. Theres a few more of the gorgonian obol type I want to add.
Hey Steve, I'm wondering how do you store them scarabs? I picked up a tiny one and am afraid it will drop off my desk and into oblivion.
Smojo, Love your OP win, you certainly did well. I’m slowly getting the hang of auction bidding and want to share two recent AR’s from Larissa. Thessaly Larissa, AR Obol, Horse standing right. Ʌ-ARI, Larissa standing right balancing hydria on knee; to left water fountain in the form of lion head; all within an incuse square. 10 mm / .86 g. Circa 440 – 420 BC. The full image of the Nymph Larissa carrying a Hypia, which is so emblematic of ancient Greece caught my attention, especially the level of detail you get at 10 mm in diameter. Thessaly, Larissa, AR Hemidrachm, Thessalos right, wearing petasos and chlamys, holding band across head of forepart of bull right. R (retrograde) to lower left/ Ʌ-API bridled horse left; below, sandal of Jason to left all within incuse square. 16mm / 2.92g, Circa 450-430 BC. Although my interests sometimes seem all over the place, one interest in particular with ancients is how religious imagery was communicated, and this one just made me think of a bull being taken to a ritual slaughter, (ok, maybe three quarters of a bull). Both of these came in very reasonably priced even with the bidders premium fee and shipping.
Those are really nice @Hispanicus I am also amazed at the details in these little guys. It sure does show that even hundreds of years ago mankind possesed amazing skills especially for what they had to work with. Thanks for all the great comments and posts. Even the scarabs, I will eventually soon add atleast a couple. They're deffinately interesting.
I have tiny little specimen containers with plastic see-through lids and foam bases (they're kinda cool)
