AD 293-306 Augusta from 305-306 Trier Mint AD 337340 Obv.: FL MAX THEODORAE AVG; Draped bust right. Rev.: PIETAS ROMANA PIETAS standing right holding child, crossing left hand, cross in left field//TRP
Fantastic, much better than mine. Theodora (337 - 340 A.D.) Ӕ4 O: FL MAX THEODORAE AVG. Laureate and draped bust right. R: PIETAS ROMANA. Pietas standing facing right, holding child in arms; TRS Palm Branch in exergue. Trier Mint 15mm 1.4g RIC VIII Trier 91; Sear 17502
Hey there @Collecting Nut . . . coincidentally, I have that same type (though with a slight difference in the exergue): Trier / Treveri mint; RIC VIII 43; 14 mm., 2.07 g. Although this coin carries Theodora's portrait, it was issued after her death. The green areas on the reverse are hard deposits, not verdigris or bronze disease. In-hand the exergue can be read as TRS. I like the small but significant Cross in the reverse's left field. Trivia question: Who is the infant supposed to be that Pietas is holding?
