So, I was watching the Saint Paul Antiques Auction and I won the following coin. It is a lifetime tet of Alexander the great. I have wanted one of these for my historical figures collection and I am pleased with this one. It is far from perfect but that is okay. It is obvious it has been around a bit in its very long history. To me that just enhances the story of this coin. It also means I did not have to pay top price for an ef example. This one will do just fine. I like the toning and I really like the Janiform vase. It is a shame it does not have the full name...but one cannot have everything. Please post your tets of Alexander. Kings of Macedon, Alexander III ‘the Great' (336-323 BC). AR Tetradrachm (26mm, 17.00g, 9h). Amphipolis, c. 332-326 BC. Head of Herakles r., wearing lion skin. R/ Zeus Aëtophoros seated l.; janiform head in l. field. Price 6; Troxell, Studies, Issue A3. Some roughness, VF Saint Paul Antiques Auction 2 Lot 10, March 18, 2017.

@Orfew That's a well-centered, artistically rendered Tet (and with the lifetime tag)--- a great buy!!! CONGRATS!!!!! I have a bronze and a very worn posthumous drachm so I'm still in the market for a TET...and the closest I have is this Tet of Lysimachos, Pella mint; Struck circa 286/5-282 BC. Diademed head of the deified Alexander right, with horn of Ammon / BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΛYΣIMAXOY, Athena Nikephoros seated left, left arm resting on shield, spear behind; monogram to outer left. That's a great coin and can't go wrong with one of the greatest historical figures. This one is also my first.....of the year. Alexander III Mint: Arados 325 to 323 BC AR Tetradrachm Obvs: No inscription. Head of Herakles right, clad in lions skin. Revs: AΛEΞANΔPOY, Zeus seated left holding eagle and staff. AP monogram in left field. 25x27mm, 17.20g I wanted to get a lifetime issue for quite some time now. The test cut bent it, but overall is in great shape.
That's an outstanding feature of this coin, especially since it's easily recognizable despite being such a small size. Well done!
That's an unusual and interesting ATG tet, Orfew! Nice choice I'm pretty happy with mine, and ex-AJ. Luckily he found one he liked better (hard to imagine!) and I was able to buy his reject KINGS OF MACEDON, Alexander III AR tetradrachm, 17.14 gm late lifetime issue, struck in Aradus c. 324/3 BCE Obv: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin headdress. Congrats Orfew with your first Alexander tet !, be warned, before you know it, you will be chasing his former generals and others with the same style of coins
Great collection @Andres2 They are all very beautiful. The portrait on the Lysimachos is especially wonderful.
