If you dislike USPS you can always request the seller send it FedEx or UPS.

All of our Brunswick, GA mail goes through the Jacksonville, FL distribution center. While I think the "idiots and thieves" assessment is a tiny bit harsh, I too have had some issues in the past, so yep, I feel your pain.

Same thing happened to me while wintering in Florida. Coin arrived in Jacksonville and was forwarded to Kansas! Somebody at USPS was playing games, or not competent.

I was not aware of that. To be honest, rarely do most sellers on eBay even read messages. It's understandable for those who are not full time sellers. I prefer Fed-X, but then you'd have to be home all the time and I live in two places 180 miles apart.

In the past, I've had packages come to town, leave and end up in Puerto Rico, and finally make it back again. :muted: That's happened TWICE.

That happens to me A LOT. Goes to Orlando, Miami, and finally back again. No wonder they are losing money.

I'll bet they wish they never let customers actually see the tracking data.:p

The addresses are read by a computer, not a person. If the address is hand written remember that none of us write the same way. If it’s mis-scanned it gets sent to the wrong place. Eventually someone notices and it’s makes its way to the correct location.
USPS delivered 6.7 billion packages last year. Yes they will make mistakes as it’s not a perfect world we live in.

I can't be too mad at USPS right now. Besides the fact they've lowered the rate at which they lose packages from 3% a couple decades ago to less than .5% today I recently addressed a large shipment incorrectly. I got suspicious when it bounced around and within zip codes for days and days then I tripled checked the address. It took some effort but I was able to talk to someone and file a missing package which I believed straightened out its trajectory. I shudder to think what would have happened in the old days.

There was a time that the sturdiest box couldn't be handled more than about five times without being shredded in the machinery or by rough handling. In addition to the loss many packages arrived at their destinations ripped open and damaged and often with some missing content. Now days it seems that if you wrap it securely, tape it well, and insure it them it will usually get there undamaged within 4 days. I sent one package recently all thew way to California on a Monday and had a check in hand Saturday. Evern when their computer fouls up and bounces it around like yours it takes less than eight days which is what they used to take.

The only thing I'd complain about is the cost but the quality of (typical) service kindda makes up for that.

That has happened to me with packages I have sent using printed mailing labels. A package I sent to my son in Oklahoma arrived in Oklahoma City, only nine miles from his house, then went on an excursion to Rochester, New York, before, eventually, returning, a bit late for his birthday! I mentioned it to my local post office and the man behind the counter just laughed, thought it was funny, although not unusual. But it is not new. Back in the 1970s a card sent to me from about five miles away across Memphis, TN, was postmarked New York City on the back when it finally arrived.

Absolutely true. I've been dealing with USPS for many years now. I've had a few packages delayed over the years but not really all that many. If I pay $6 to have a package shipped anywhere in the country and it takes a week I really don't care, I still think it's a good deal. Sometimes I'm actually amazed at how fast it can be.

That being said, are some computers dumber than others? How does a package get to the right town for days, then suddenly another scan sends it to Mars?

Not all computers can read the same numbers alike. A hand written 7 can be read as a 7 but if it has a small loop on the top bar it can be read as a 9.

Yeah - saw something like this once with a coin I bought from northeast. It hit Indianapolis like it should. Then went to another place(I can't remember where) then back to Indi, then back to the other place, then back to indi and finally they got it into Ky where it belonged. If I recall correctly it took 2.5 weeks to arrive. But at least I finally got it.

During COVID I won 2 coins from Kuenker in Germany.
A week after paying they arrived in the U.S.A. The next
several weeks after customs in Chicago they traveled
most places of the mid west and states of the N. West.
They saw more of that area than Lewis and Clark.

I'd be very interested to know what the shipping label looks like if it is hand written. Sounds like your box is being sent on a cross country tour. This is not unusual nowadays.. I had a grey sheet leave Virginia and get sent to Alabama before getting sent back up north to me. They had to look for it and track it down. Took weeks.

Have computers scanning and more consolidated hubs than in the past. Have read it's very important to print large, and clearly, with nothing else on the box. Scribbling out bar codes and leaving them exposed isn't a good idea. No partial labels left exposed.
