1970-S Cent Heavy machine doubling?

I just came across this cent while CRH. I am still quite the novice at this, so I wanted others opinions. I checked variety vista and did not see one that I thought looked similar. I only see the doubling in the 9,7,0, and the S. I'm guessing just really heavy machine doubling, just wanted others opinions. Thanks!

Definitely MD, not to mention there is also some die deterioration.
If you see flat and shelflike then it is not a Doubled Die.

Flat and Shelflike doubling is considered worthless doubling.
Not related to a true Doubled Die variety unfortunately.

Also, the flat and Shelflike appearance to the S mint mark is another indication of worthless doubling because it can't be doubled die because they were hand punched into the die during that time.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe they were still applying the mintmark to each die at the mint in 1970. I used to know when they quit, but I can't remember. That would mean any doubling that included the mintmark could not be true doubled die since that is caused by the second application of the hub to the die slightly off prior to the application of the mintmark.

 

I think you are correct. "In 1990 and 1991 the Mint began applying the mint mark to the master die for circulation strike coins. Prior to that a DDO and an RPM could be on the same die/coin, but it seems pretty unlikely that the doubling would be in the same direction.

There are actually quite a few instances where the hubbing process created a DDO/DDR and alsohave a RPM. That would be an interesting list and or ashort set of coins. I will look into it.

 

Let us know if you find one. I know I've seen a DDO/DDR that also had MD, but can't recall one with DDO/DDR and RPM.

 

I seem to recall the most on Jeffersons I will look into it. That is if I remember right.
