We should also highlight some of Doug's achievements and interests in numismatics. He was rather knowledgable about Dutch ducats. He was the editor of the book, The Gold Ducats of the Netherlands by Dariusz F. Jasek. Here's a CoinTalk book review. Here's Matt and Mike's interview with Doug on the Coin Show Podcast What were Doug's U.S. coin interests?
I believe he collected Peace Dollars before he stopped collecting. You know what would be the perfect title for a Doug Story? I'll Get Ya For That.[/QUOTE]
I am really sorry to hear this, condolences to his family. Doug was an excellent mentor and “coin friend” to me. I learned a lot from his posts and emails. He sure will be missed…
I remember Doug saying that he collected Mint and Proof sets at one time. I believe he enjoyed reading and the study of coins as much as actually collecting. He had one heck of a library and could remember almost everything he read.
To the most knowledgeable numismatist I've ever known. Rest in peace close friend; you will be intensely missed. Thank you for everything
I did not know him at all, however I read a lot of his posts. He was a wealth of coin knowledge. RIP Gordie Doug.
How in the world does a person have so many names? Even better, how did it fit on his driver's license?
