This was an amazing find in pocket change today considering getting cents in change is becoming less frequent. One of my best lamination finds in change.
That is a spectacular find. Thanks for sharing. If that reverse die was a bit more abraded, it would have also been a better-looking Floating Roof
A lamination means that it is attached right? If there is still a peal on the surface, a lamination crack, then it is a lamination. I see it as a loss of lamination.
I was going to say I think it's delaminated. And if the piece of metal was still attached then it's a lamination. Still an error, but I think they like it with the piece attached.
I posted this on a Facebook error variety page and it's funny that there are people saying it's not a lamination error. One person said that only Nickels can have lamination errors another said only modern cents can have lamination errors because pre 82 were 95% copper and not laminated like the new ones lol
Those pages are full of many members that have absolutely no knowledge of true Mint Errors. They never admit they are wrong when corrected. Many are stubborn, ignorant and very annoying people!
Please correct me if I'm wrong (like seriously, please correct if incorrect) but I believe there are two... types(?) of lamination errors. One where it is still attached, and another being a detached lamination. I am very intrigued by the world of error coins, and am admittedly still learning them, so take my statement with a grain of salt until someone more experienced chimes in. On another note, my LCS had sent in a very crazy type of lamination error that I'd never seen before. It was a copper Lincoln Memorial cent, essentially had his face peeled back partly, with the design still clearly visible underneath the peel-back spot. I need to ask him how it came back from grading next visit.
My coin is a delamination, I just clump delamination in with lamination error @Michael K is right about desirability it much cooler to find one with the attached lamination but that is so hard to find
