Besides the spike in silver and silver coin prices, other coin prices which were dormant for many years have increased over the last few years very much.
Here are the True View Pictures. It came back as AU Details, Cleaned. I will post more once I have it in hand.
Looks like they only called it double struck. I can clearly see a third strike. Too bad for the details/cleaned.
I am hopeful that the label will state more details about the coin. I'll find out next week, I suppose.
Seems that they only saw a double strike. If they saw three then they would have called it triple struck. I looked thru heritage archives for examples. Couldn't find a Buffalo. I imagine they are either rare, or coveted and not many have seen auction Here is a half cent for example. https://www.pcgs.com/cert/18307436 And a 1$ Gold https://coins.ha.com/itm/proof-thre...90.s?ic4=GalleryView-ShortDescription-071515#
Wow. How on earth did they see a triple struck on that $1 gold? I was surprised to see "Double Struck" on my coin on the website, but hoped that was just an error category. Is it worth contesting? It seems obvious to me that it is triple struck, but I suppose I could be wrong.
Seems that a small percentage of those 3$ golds were struck before knowing that the reverse was not in the correct position. Then they were restruck wick the correct orientation. I am thinking that the third strike happens to all proofs to ensure quality. With out the coin in hand some of the details can be hard to understand. I do believe though that I can see the pluribus three times on the reverse. The other that leads me to a third strike is the tail that runs thru the multiple EPU's. Ps I just noticed that your buffalo doesn't have a horn.
There's at least a dozen double struck Buffaloes on Heritage. "buffalo nickel double struck" - https://www.ha.com/c/search/results...state=5327&sold_status=1526&sb=1&mode=archive Seems pretty picky on the details grade. I don't see a cleaning.
Those details don't match the Op's coin, Hence the triple struck. PS, I enjoyed seeing the double struck Buff's @KBBPLL Honestly, @lordmarcovan if this coin could be posted over at PCGS. THere are still mmany Buff enthusiasts, I had to bow out going for the errors they just get too expensive.
