The 42-D also has interruptions in the steps

I am confident those wont void FS. The little chatter is very shallow and not even seen at different angles. Again though, we shall see. ;)

Yep, and every time I see it spelled correct I pronounce it "Nic-Kell" ;)

When I was assembling MS sets I found the 42-D to be quite a bear to find in a really nice, clean Mint State.

Most of the coins I found were sub-par, but when I searched long and hard enough, I found a very nice specimen.

Fantastic group of nickels! So much eye appeal on the first page of a thread! Link us to the registry because I know they are all stunners. You sparked my interest in not only toners but jeffs as well. Let me know if you have any duplicates that you may want to pass onto another collector.

    Good luck on the grades!

I actually just started and only have had one previous submission. So I only have 4 NGC coins in my Registry. However, they do rank me 35 because they are monsters.

    Here is the Registry

    Here 3 of the nickels

I've always found the most difficult part of grading Jefferson Nickels is trying to determine what are bag or contact marks and what are marks that weren't obliterated when the planchet was struck. It's not as easy as you'd think.

I agree, not to mention some years where the dies were just wrecked. Some BU nickels look like they have XF details.

You have very nice Nickels and loves them War Nickels. Yes that 41 and the 44 D is very nice. I too like to have my set Full Steps, but that would be very expensive and I don't have that kind of funds. I also wish they never change the design on the Jefferson Nickels. There are some nicks and dings on alot of them steps and so I am not sure how NGC or PCGS will grade them. The 38 S is also interesting regarding them steps. So Yes good luck in them, but other than that, they are all very nice nickels.

How do you find such beauties? Are these undergraded in slabs or raw cherrypicks? I'm new and enjoy the thrill of the hunt and always eager to learn.

A great way to find and cherry pick coins like these is at coin shows. Coin shows often have thousands and thousands of coins. If you spend the time looking through the dealers inventory, you can usually find some nice gems.
