Hello all. Meow is sneaking out from under the couch as Meow may have found something. Being out in the open causes Meow a lot of anxiety so Meow tries to stay hidden as much as possible. The last time Meow posted, Meow found a verified (By Members) capped die. Meow has just found something very similar except the fact it is mushy on both sides. It is also dished with the obverse side being concave a bit. Meow is not sure if this is PMD or something else. Meow could not get the USB camera to work so Meow only has Catphone pictures to show. Sorry it is the best Meow can do. trying to do more is hard as doing anything makes the paws shake. Please give Meow some solid opinions of what this might be. Thank you and purrs.
Hi Meow Your copper plated Zinc planchet Cent has its plating compromised. The inner zinc was affected and it has caused Zinc rot to ooze out. Not a mint error of any kind unfortunately. IMHO
OK but the funny thing is, that this looks exactly like the capped die penny on the obverse that Meow found a few months ago. Liberty and the date and all features are very mushy. Except this time the reverse too is mushy. Is there no such thing as capped die on both sides? Meow was thinking of cleaning it a bit to get it to look better.
Meow cannot remember for sure but the last coin Meow found was a 2018 d Meowthinks. This penny is a 2018, it is too mushy for Meow to see a mint mark. Meow is thinking that this just might be just another die cap penny but just fairly zinc rotten. Look at the liberty and the date. There is no zinc rot there, it is mushy and unreadable just like the die cap penny Meow found before. Meow needs to figure out how to clean the white crusty parts.
Considering what Meow just pointed out. Do you still think it is not just a rotten version of the die cap Meow found before?
No. The image on the plating is just affected by the issue. Trust me when I say.. that's a damaged Cent.
