Honestly think it would make more sense to bring back the $500 bill than create a $250 bill. Would be a pain counting it and making change for it. Though you could get to $1 million with only 40 bundles of these compared to 100 bundles of $100 bills. I don't know if this will actually happen but if it does at least I could more easily afford one than whatever hunk of gold they're trying to get made. I don't think there's a necessity for such a denomination but if actually make it, I want one.
We need 500's and 1000's at the current rate of inflation. All these hundreds are just clogging up my wallet.
Was thinking about this the other night. The way to get it passed would be to promise a free one to every household. Offer a redemption code to every household to use at the bank to get one to celebrate the 250th. It'd be a neat thing to do with minimal effect on inflation or the economy, compared to everything else. If every household got one for free it would cost about $33 billion. Before anyone loses their minds, the national debt increases about $37 billion dollars every 5 days as a reference. We've wasted more than that on less. Can assume a percentage of people would adamantly refuse to get one or not even know about it so can subtract that figure off the cost. Alternatively, they could offer it as a small tax credit if you qualify. Won't say how many multiples of that I pay in income and property taxes so I'd be all for them basically flipping a quarter back at my feet as a token gesture for my collection.
Unlike making gold coins and medals, which the Secretary of Treasury can authorize to some degree, this would have to pass Congress to happen. Bill has already been introduced but hasn't come to a vote yet.
True. H.R. 1761. Way back on Feb. 27th, 2025. One full year and 3 months ago. It has an approximate 2% chance of being passed. I think I'll worry about other matters. BTW: I didn't just make up that "2%" stat. I found it here: https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/119/hr1761 https://www.youtube.com/shorts/eor5KvC-MMQ
They would not be able to actually print until after his term is up and possibly wont even get submitted until after his term expires.
I'm still sore that we're not getting just a simple gold quarter eagle. $2.50 to celebrate the 250th.
They waited too late to start pushing for it. Should have been pursued three years ago instead of commemorating FIFA. I wanted one too. Hollis told me in person at Central States that it wasn't going to happen.
I thought the $250 was a joke, until I read an article about it yesterday. It truly boggles the mind.
It's a Conder token and in the UK it all makes sense, in the NGC link below it shows a pic of four, I want the one with three men hanging but it's way out of my price range, as usual! https://www.usrarecoininvestments.com/coin_info/hard_times_tokens/british_token_1793_end_of_pain.htm https://boards.ngccoin.com/topic/421829-end-of-pain-tokens/
