VERY good story and TV presentation. I just hope that the EBay fakes just got more coverage. These fake producers have made a mint on crapolla.
The publicity raising awareness of ebay fakes is good, but the story was much too "fair" to efake itself. They got a response saying it was strictly against policy and those sellers would be suspended. Hah. As much experience has shown, if you or I call attention to fake listings, if they reply at all, they say the items do not violate their policies. The last counterfeit I reported they not only did not reply at all directly to the report, I got notifications as if I were a potential customer interested in buying the item. And with the shortened return window, the reporters will not be able to return the coins because it took too long for them to determine the coins were fake.
I did a past Coin Week article and a Live Coin Q&A podcast and eBay still doesn't care... Best, Jack.
Counterfeiting is still illegal and they are KNOWINGLY being a middle man for these activities. For profit. They are profiting from counterfeiting. They need to be fined and jailed, that is the only thing that will make them crack down on this. The marketplace has less and less respect for EBay every minute.
The marketplace and the justice system still have the utmost respect for things and people that make money, though.
There was a coin last week on eBay, it was in a PCGS slab. It was listed for BIN at a ridiculously low price. I noticed the slab even had a hologram but the slab just didn't look right, the hologram was also visible from the reverse side. That ain't happening. So I looked it up. The coin in the listing didn't look anything like the one in the PCGS coin verify photo, not even close, surfaces had bag marks in completely different areas. The seller had 5 negative reviews in the past 30 days for passing counterfeit coins in fake slabs. Apparently they got busted because the listing and seller disappeared from my watch list.
eBay is so huge that they don't have the people to respond at a high level. And they don't want to pay for decent security. Buyer beware !
