Anyone find any cool plated coins while coin roll hunting? I've only ever found 3 so far, but very happy to have found those 3. https://youtube.com/shorts/ZUZF_6eJUQM?si=UVnhp7Ds4zA_pIzs
I've still got a roll of gold-plated NC quarters that I bought for I think $16 years ago. I keep meaning to start putting them into circulation, and then I keep misplacing them...
You should release them in NC where people will appreviate them the most! I mean... I think anyone who sees when will instantly appreciate them though. They immediately catch people's eye as special. Not every day do you get gold in your change.
I'd originally planned to put them in the carts at Aldi, but right about the time I got them Aldi put in self-checkouts (that DON'T TAKE CASH), so now you keep your cart through checkout and get your own quarter back.
Love the American Liberty in your video, I have one as well, and same as you I bought it from the Mint, here's a quick pic!
What a great design! I love it! The 2026 Semiquincentenial dime with Lady Liberty is legit too. I can't wait to find one CRH.
Still to date only 2026 coins I've actually seen in circulation are the dimes. I haven't even yet seen the Althea Gibson quarter from last year. Still looking! Quarters are expensive to look through but there's more to find than in dimes.
That Althea Gibson quarter must have a low mintage, because hardly anyone has one... they probably got cut off for the semiquincentenial
This is a question my dad asked when we got to go on a tour of the Denver Mint: how do they decide how many of each quarter are they going to mint? The answer is, they don't, directly. Quarters are minted according to demand throughout the year, officially decided by the Secretary of the Treasury. In years where there is more than one quarter design (as has been the case since 1999), they set up a predermined schedule of what design is going to be minted during the year. Then they mint whatever is demanded at the time, of whatever the current design is. So if it's say, April, and the second design is up, they're told to mint say, 50 million quarters, they'll mint 50 million of that design. Because demand tends to go down towards the end of the year, the 4th and 5th designs tend to have lower mintages than the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd designs do. I think it's quite likely that, anticipating the demand for 2026 quarters, they may have even ended the 5th 2025 quarter (Althea Gibson) early, resulting in an even lower mintage than usual. Previous years the 4th and 5th quarters of the year were lower already, but it seems especially the case for 2025. I'm even now only finding a handful of Stacey Milbern, the 4th of 2025; I typically see maybe 3 or 4 in a given cash drawer.
