Could be a VAM. Interesting.. https://coinweek.com/the-1900-o-over-cc-morgan-dollar-the-last-carson-city-silver-dollar/ Here is a closeup of your mint mark @SensibleSal66 Do you see it better now?
I believe it is one of the 11 varieties of the O/CC so you’re not crazy as you suggest in your thread title. a common trait to identification of the over date is the Eagles breast. Here is my example which has been graded and identified by NGC. He will notice that the eagle breast feathers resemble yours. A light struck breast feathers 1900 O/CC is the best identification for these. There are 11 different varieties known, and there is another variety with a micro O. The micro O is the counterfeit. The Carson City dies were reused at the New Orleans mint. The CC was ground down on their dies, and the O mint mark was put there. Hope this helps.
Weak strikes if I’m not mistaken. Check them carefully. Sometimes you can see both CC parts and other times it’s barely one tip showing. And I’d say by the photo you posted that yours is a O/CC mint mark.
Awesome...there is so much to learn and so many things to miss. Here is the Obverse and reverse sides....
I see you joined CT less than a month ago so I’ll say welcome to CT and yes, you can learn a lot here. In the future, it helps to show both sides of the coin in full size not, in the thumbnail like you posted here. You have a nice coin so that was a good find and it is one of the varieties of the 1900-O/CC.
