Very clean front end, I greatly prefer that over the "messy" coin shops. Looks great, thanks for sharing the pics.
Somebody on CU pointed out that that Roman silver piece is an antoninianus, not a “denarius” as marked. To which I explained (since my dealer friend would never make such a mistake): “Yes. That’s not Michael’s holder, but a customer’s. It was in with a loose box o’ stuff that recently came in the shop, which he hadn’t reholdered or priced out yet. Gordian III antoninianii are so common that some of us on CoinTalk and NumisForums affectionately refer to them as “roaches”, but they come nice, usually, and their commonness keeps the price down and makes them one of the more appealing options in cheap Roman silver for that reason. Great starter coins for the novice Ancients collector. I think they’re like the 1921 Morgan dollar of ancient coins.”
What I didn’t show you was his private stash. Might do one or two sneak peeks at a couple of those, if he gets ‘em out, and gives me permission to share.
Didn’t take pix of all the gold, for some reason. Mostly less expensive stuff. Guess that’s ’cause that’s what I was looking at.
Though only silver plated and not Sterling, it is a WW1 era German patriotic commemorative spoon with “DEUTSCHLAND”, the flag, the Imperial eagle, and Kaiser Wilhelm II on it. Pretty cool. My Dad is a big WW1 history buff, so I got it for him. Since it’s only plated and not solid silver, Michael just gave it to me. I reckon it’s probably still worth $20-40-ish to the right person. Dad might like it. I’ll show it to you when we do lunch tomorrow. You gonna be at work or at home? Will text you when I leave Asheville.
