These are some of my pick ups over the last 3 months or so... going to dig into error notes soon. What are you all collecting? Anything you're looking out for.
Inform my ignorance here, please. Two of the notes say "Experimental." (R and S) What does that mean? Why the R and S?
Experimental issues had blue seals like the standard Silver Certificates but were differentiated with a red "R" or "S" overprint on the face. The red "R" overprint was used for "regular distinctive" paper and the red "S" overprint was used on the "special" test paper. There are different block letters but don’t ask me about them. It gets confusing. The R and S do increase the value considerably. Naturally the condition of the note increases or decreases that value. I think a Fine grade is about $160-$200 with the R or S mark.
I love star note errors! That stuck digit is SO COOL!!!! I'm jealous. I just got a steal of a star note error for $136. I think that's a great price, what about you? What have you seen is the market for error star notes?
Nice cutting error. Prices are all over the place for star errors. Of course, it all depends on the error and the condition. The more egregious the error the higher the price. I would check eBay sold listings for current pricing then average them per error class. There is always a sucker on eBay that bids WAY to high, so I typically throughout the lowest and the highest and average the rest. That gives me a starting point in negotiations.
I started out with a signature set of Bank of Canada denominations up to $100. Whenever I met a dealer at the few shows I attended way back then, most just had coins & zero notes. They always eyed me a bit skeptically after I asked for a $100 note. One exclusive paper dealer steered me away from the signature set idea. He taught me 2 indisputable facts: that "original" (EPQ) notes of the first 3 series were tough & replacements were bargains (considering how tough they were). So, in the early days of eBay (around 2000), I sold all my top 2 denominations ($50 & $100 notes) plus all my regular series for UNC (& upgraded with specific notes in mind). I focussed entirely on replacements, signature change-overs, errors & special serial numbers. It took me "forever" to find an original (or EPQ) set of 1935 series (up to $20). My last CAD purchase was last spring. Most Canadian auctions don't have what I'm looking for now adays. For the most part, I have dropped my BoC sets in favour of overlooked World Currency but haven't purchased anything since January. I was after African nations I could find in UNC but I have found it to "out of reach" as other priorities have popped up. So, I'm just taking a break & am not sure when I'll get back into the thick of things. BTW: I like those pick ups @TreasureInChange! Nice replacement-errors @Jersey magic man!

When it comes to currency, I use to collect just about everything, now it’s just GOLD bullion and high denomination notes, picked these two not to long ago.
Wow! Just wow. I hope my wife let's me buy them one day, but for now I get to lool at pictures of everyone elses and admire from afar.
