My goodness! So far, 54 bids to $1225 1895 Morgan Silver Dollar. Appears to be in good condition but I don’t know coins. I could not find a mint mark anywhere on it. I found this coin in the pocket of a jacket I bought at an estate sale, so I don’t know much about it. Thanks for Looking! https://www.ebay.com/itm/389946008694?_skw=morgan+silver+dollar&itmmeta=01KQTDHEQKTG7VGF52ZGJNGCG2&hash=item5aca97e476:g:2NcAAeSwcCJp7~p2&itmprp=enc:AQALAAAA0GfYFPkwiKCW4ZNSs2u11xCnLIjZTVftCxNtrYN+zgFn1TgQFKGWevNJBoMkq+m3CpBBRVSX8x6bUCHAaMlTtzH+hY+6igDTLtlwyI43plbMQzNBwD3HnmVyipyguF0r2Ptysc5FPFwAPEq8bStdGtyR6ArYcWxgj4BDi6KWMHvGt/QlsIJ4nIWvgYZD1mSZ5fuDjaKT1P/Z0nAd34taaGeKS+9aQwGkFM++IRKFMutWH23wPK76SYGqtRMYChgPw4r7XD1yYaEKYjhqXA0rqAo=|tkp:Bk9SR4Dsxc2-Zw&LH_Auction=1
I'm wondering if something is going on with the auction, or maybe bids got cancelled. But the high big just changed multiple times while I was looking at it. For a few minutes it showed a high bid of 1 dollar even though there are 32 bids. Right now it's showing that it's back over $200
That’s 100% bogus. That’s a certified Shanghai mint Morgan and has never remotely been a proof Philly.
There is a few things that I suspect are not right. The date is not right, never heard of a closed 5. The m in unum is almost filled. The denticles from 6 to 7 are a give away that this is a cast most likely. The reverse was done a bit better but over all the fields are pretty rough. I always wonder that a coin this rare, why hasn't it been certified. Mike.
After @Sting 60 remark I decided to do some research, I found that he is not only correct but also there was O and S only, no plain 1895 Morgan. My mistake, sorry people.
You are correct Sir, so this would have to have been a proof, which none were ever circulated. That is why a mentioned the rarity. Mike.
Although no circulation strikes are known, quite a few 1895 proofs were circulated. Some have graded 10 or below. Mike
I have a 95 that someone removed the mint mark. Cost me $7.50. Always wondered if they actually thought it would fool someone.
There were very few 1895P Morgans ever made and ALL were proofs. This was NEVER a proof. It's got to be fake, and I'm no expert.
You beat me to it. This is why I immediately knew it was counterfeit besides looking very odd. Even circulated, it would still have a bit of a cameo.
At the time I posted this, there were 54 bids I think. Looks like a lot of bids got retracted. It could have been just one single bidder or several.
I did go back and look at the bid history this morning. 4 different bidders retracted their multiple bids. Maybe they were from here and read this thread before hammer time.
Not me but the VAM experts probably could. I'll get better images one of these days. This is all I have as of now. I might take it to FUN in January.
