I won one of @lordmarcovan 's contests and took two silver dollars for my grand daughters. Since they aren't coin collectors yet, I thought I should do a dipping experiment. Here are the coins as received: Then I decided to dip them (eZest) 1) wash my hands 2) Wet the coins 3) really a dip - less than a second 4) Rub the dip around the coins with my fingers 5) rinse the coins thoroughly 6) blot dry. This is what I got: As I thought, the Morgan came out looking good and the worn Peace dollar just got washed out. Comments?
The Morgan turned out nicely. Normally I prefer toning, but not that blotchy dark stuff. The Peace looks like there just wasn't really anything there to improve. I'd prefer the "before" on that one. Regardless, a solid pair of coins that will make great gifts for your granddaughters!
I agree; the Morgan came out much nicer. The Peace Dollar didn't really improve but there wasn't much that could be done to help it.
Rather than dipping this Peace Dollar (which would render it unnatural looking), I pocket carried it for a few months with a pocket full of clad coinage . I think it made a bit of an improvement, just a bir Z Before: After:
Your precautions were rewarded. Looks like you did what most of us would have, but I have never used E-Zest so I might have used it longer than I should have. Peace still rough but the Morgan was improved significantly. Nice coins to get your granddaughters primed for the hobby. Good job…Spark
