Our Dumb Friends League became the Blue Cross and its a bravery or merit award and an actual medal not engraved on a dollar because its base metal. Probably highly researchable. It would be fun to find out who it was awarded to. What she did to earn it. Search digital paper files around the date. G is probably Gertrude or Georgina. Interesting for sure.

This came right up on google, it explains the term dumb and it's nothing I thought about at all.

Why did the Denver Dumb Friends League change their name?

The rebrand not only eliminates confusion surrounding the outdated term “dumb,” which was used to refer to animals because they lacked the power of human speech but also positions Humane Colorado as a compassionate and forward-thinking advocate for pets and their caregivers.

Contemporarily, 'dumb' was also used interchangeably with 'mute'.

And 62 years later, it was still current enough in the UK for someone to sing about "that deaf, dumb and blind kid"...

Yep, great song as well, plus brings back memories of playing pinball, I don't see them around much anymore! :D
