Possible to find clipped wheats in roll searches, I've found probably a dozen of them over the years. I don't believe most people even know they are an error.

What you have is called a clip. It is a very small one but still neat for a beginner. What happened is that blanks were being punched out of the metal sheet, and in this case, it came to the end of the sheet sooner than planned. Slippage, maybe.

On the obverse of your coin at about 11 o'clock you can see that the rim is a tad bit flatter than the rest of the rim. It happened because the clip caused unequal pressure as the rim was being formed in the upsetting mill. (Have you ever been on a seesaw when your playmate decided to jump off?:() Anyway, this flattened area is referred to as the Blakesley Effect, named for the person who first discovered it.

Even though not a searcher, I've gotten two, maybe three in change over the years and believe you're right.

    Nice find, OP.

Thank you! Woo hoo! And by the way, I've been meaning to ask someone; what does OP mean? I mean, I know it has something to do with being a newbie....

Too bad the shell case cent has a scratch. But the small clip looks good.

I know....about the scratch. Story of my life! lol But not too bad for the first one I've ever seen in person, let alone spotting it myself.

I've been on this forum for a few years now and there still are internet slang/terms used here I don't understand. There's no shame. ;)
