Thank you. So fellow posters, can we please return this thread to the original question and get all to agree that no matter how insignificant, friction wear removes something from the coin's surface? And...who needs a balance? With the proper lighting and magnification you can actually see the effects from the loss of atoms to grains to grams to ounces from the coin's surface as the wear increases.
Sure, but that wasn't the original question. This was - Which is what was answered. Yes, a tiny, tiny portion of the metal is worn away, but the vast majority of it is just flattened out on the coin
