Great Idea!! I have someone whom has helped me A LOT!

@DaveWaterstraat (aka Dave700x) You opened my eyes to the world of Morgan Dollar VAMs and guided me through with kids gloves. Made looking them up exciting and fun and easy to understand. Answered all of my questions I have asked you no matter how dumb they seemed.

I think I would have lost interest in Morgans if it wasn't for you. Thank you very much for helping gather a Morgan Dollar Collection that I am extremely proud of and will ALWAYS cherish.

My list would be too long. For now, I'll go with Doug and the mods for putting up with all of us.

We met through Marcus who is no longer amongst us here anyway.
Yes I enjoy ancienct far more than I ever did moderns. But as you know I still dabble in moderns.
They say once you've had a taste of the "dark side" you won't ever see the light again.
For me I can mix my love for history and a hobby I enjoy.
Phil, I'm always available to help you when you need it just have to ask. I believe you have my email as well.
We're all friends here right

I agree to name the members who have helped and taught me, the list would be long.
There are 2 that really stand out.
@TIF if not for her I wouldn't have kept on the ancient path. When I first started ancients she broke it down to a new person to where I completely understood.
Then @John Anthony because he gets and sells some really cool coins.

I'm not sure who I would call a mentor, but there are some very smart people here. I pick up bits and pieces almost daily, it seems. Even people we frequently disagree with can teach us something. I'm glad I discovered the world of coins and the numismatic community, and to the members of this forum, thank you and keep the discussions, the knowledge, and the pictures, coming!

Aww... thanks, Smojo! That's a high compliment :)

Many of my fellow CoinTalker ancient collectors are instrumental in fueling my interest in the hobby. The camaraderie is great-- occasional discord but usually nothing lasting. It's a very pleasant board. As for ancient collecting mentors, of course Doug Smith is one of them. AncientJoe has also been instrumental in my growth and enjoyment of the hobby.

Since the OP mentioned him, I will too: oddly, SuperDave has some credit for keeping me in the hobby. I admired his thoughtful and knowledgable posts on another coin forum 4-5 years ago when I was trying to sort and make a disposition on the family hoard of circulated US coins. SuperDave is worth imitating in terms of his style of interaction and demeanor. Ancient coins soon drew my interest and I jumped ship with gusto and have been going strong ever since (translation: I have been spending money with abandon since ;))

my mentors are the peeps active in ancients. i have only been an active member a couple of months, but have learned a great deal from them. while i have other coins, my perk interest is in the dark side. i have learned much and will learn more. @John Anthony taught me one of my Trajan coins was a strikeover on a Nabatean(spck) drachm. @TIF she taught me about the sewer goddess of Rome. @Smojo rekindled my memory about a Septimius Severus coin i have. @Deacon Ray taught me what Jewish ancients i have. plus there have been others helped me identify what coins i have., and i'm sure they will again. i learn something new everyday there, so here's a big SHOUT OUT imagesdarkside.jpg to the peeps on the dark side from me:)

I appreciate the kind words, guys (and girls - it's a testament to the egalitarianism of the Internet that this is the first I'd heard that you were female, TIF), but it's important to know that my motives are equal parts selfishness and altruism. My answer to the OP's question is "all of you," and you are all responsible for fulfilling the selfish part of my numismatic journey.

It is all about the learning for me. I learn from those who post things I didn't know before, but I learn in far broader depth from those of you who post questions I don't know the answer to. You force me to go out and discover answers, research things I might not have considered left to my own purposes. It is the least knowledgeable among you who make my numismatic experience the most rewarding, as much because it forces me to broaden my own horizons as for the pleasure I derive from answering your questions, and those of you who ask the questions are the ones to whom I owe the greatest debt of gratitude for my own development.

Best of all are the ones who take what little bit of knowledge I might provide (you're one of these, TIF), and simply run away from me into some particular direction with energy, intelligence and great success. There is no better feeling than to believe oneself some small part of the success of another.

Although my signature line is a sort of backhanded swipe at those who would prefer to be spoon-fed, please don't stop letting me Google that for you. :D
