Very nice. I have a 2006 tenth ounce. Other than that silver is generally the most precious metal I can collect.
RickieB you see any toning on any of your gold coins? I have toning on about half of mine, and those are the 2006 W UNC AGE. They have toned in six months.
These toned after going in PCGS slabs and in PCGS boxes under room temperatures and normal conditions.
If they are not stored in a sealed container with silica gel packs they will tone. Humidity is the culprit.
I don't think GDJMSP is saying you NEED to do anything. He's just telling you what will happen to those gold coins if moisture gets to them.
Beautiful coin, Rickie. Not me. If they were going to flip-flop on the dates, I wish they had gone to Romans after 2000. Pre-2000 numbers are a pain to decipher, and hard to read because they're so small. Example: the 1988 above: MCMLXXXVIII . A 2001: MMI .
You might have a hard time even finding a truly airtight container. That's why I said a sealed container. Any kind of container that is sealed cuts down the air flow within that container. And that is what allows the silica gel packs to do their job - absorb the moisture from that air inside the container. You don't "need" to do this, but if you wish to prevent your coins from toning - it is the only thing there is that will work. Unless of course you can find a truly airtight coin holder. But, there aren't any that exist right now.
Howdy Centdime.... The answer is yes, however, I did seek out certain years that exhibted toning and bought the one that I liked. What Doug is saying is true. In my safe and my safety deposit box I keep ample silica gel to ward off such humidity as well as aircondition the safe room. To top of the air control I have two de-humidifiers in the rooms as well. This keeps all the coins and paper in a cool "dry" place. One coin I bought that has toning is beautiful and PCGS did insert a wrong date ID tag in the holder..LOL I asked about it and they said send it back for a correction..hahah..just goes to show you that everyone makes mistakes ! Post some pics of your toned coins so we can see. regards RickieB
I notice these few coins only toned during the winter and haven't this summer so you guys are right. Hopefully over this next winter I can get these to finish toning as they don't look so good as they are. Here are pics of two:
