Any value in over inked seriel numbers? Notice how the 3 is bolder than the rest of the digits. Thoughts? I have opinions, but don't want to voice them until I hear yours. Appreciate your help!
Over inking can appear many ways on a note. For a serial number to be over inked it’s something you don’t see everyday but it really doesn’t raise the premium on a note either and it does happen more often that one would think.
The more ink the better. This is a common thing and one digit slightly over inked is not going to draw a premium.
Thanks everyone! I had a feeling and I've always sent them back to the bank, but I do thinj they're cool and wish they were a thing.
If several digits are heavily over inked or an area is real smushy with ink than that is probably good. 1 digit that is just bolder than the rest won't get the carrot. It's like when the entire line of digits are high or low. If they are only a little high or low it's nothing. But if they are drastically higher or lower then there is a premium.
When I strap hunt I come across many of these. Too many to be worth anything. However I did save a nice crispy set of overinked 0 through 9 just for the heck of it.
You need to train her Sal. My wife now checks her change and her bills for anything special. The only thing is, I have to buy them from her. At least it’s for face value. Lol
Believe it or not, she's pretty good at coin assessments as strange as that is. Maybe she's actually watching my posts? She knows the word, "pareidolia" and "Post mint damage". I certainly find a lot of them metal detecting.
I find these slightly overinked digits fairly frequently. What I think is interesting, is that when one digit is overinked, it is pretty common for the same digit on the other serial number to also be overinked. I thought that was cool, but I value mine as spenders at face value.
It does not take long to assemble a set as overinkings are common. You might do it with looking through just three or four straps.
