I can't resist a pretty face. I thought this was an attractive well centered coin and had to have it. Istros, Trace AR diobol, - 500-400 BC 12.4mm, 1.64 grams. These are the sellers pictures. Please let me down gently if it's a fake. Lol
Are you certain that your description is right? This appears to be a coin of Parion in Mysia and no one from Istros.
No im not sure at all. It was the sellers description. I will open the books when I get the coin and try to do a good attribution. It's only my 3rd Greek coin and my knowledge would fit on the head of a pin. It's as much a learning tool as an addition to my colection.
Hey, alde ... I suck at spotting fakes, but I'm loving that coin-type => here is my humble example ... Apparently my cow is standing on a grain ear (or a dead rat?) ... curious, did you end-up buying the OP example?
Nice one steve. I am very new to Greek coins and have everything to learn. Right now I am just buying a a couple of attractive and inexpensive coins to learn from. I ignore the dealers attribution and crack the books and do it myself. It's a challenge but a whole lot of fun.
i like those with the cows on them. they are well preserved.here's a couple of ca 480 bc gorgon/incuse square Parion hemidrachms i have
hahaha! a modern day "clodius" coin>< heheheeee! i've been a mad fan since before i could read! my uncle got these and i would look at the pictures when i was knee high to a grasshopper, and i continued the family tradition.. what, me worry?!?..
Those are interesting. I have a couple of similar looking AE's that I have had for close to 20 years but never made an attempt to ID them. This gives me incentive to try to figure them out.
