If it was the greatest looking coin ever created most would not have the capability to drop $10k to have one anyway so this questions a moot point. The mint already has it's hands full. I'm still waiting for a resolution on the proposed 2026, $2.5. No updates but we're on to the next thing. This is pretty much how everything goes now. I like the president but if we're going to be honest this is more about his ego than collector demand for a huge gold coin featuring himself. lol You're better off just being amused and entertained by it than getting irate and kicking the dog.
Seems as if every time the subject of this thread comes up on CT it ends in warnings like this. Perhaps the subject should be banned from the format like covid was from the general discussions.
I'd rather keep allowing topic like this. They help me calibrate my moderation expectations. And if I'm feeling grumpy, I don't have to click through.
Well then, we are destined to have conversations that border on "the no politics". When did people get the idea that they are the moderators of a topic. They have to throw in their negative comments just to try and get the thread shut down. I have a public announcement we don't care. If you don't like it then move on.. too easy right?
I am not fond of conflict typically; however, I enjoy a good back-and-forth where folks try to control their wording while still letting their opinions be known. For example, saying "If I gave my opinion about the person, I'd get banned", knowing exactly how everyone will take that. If we all agreed on everything there would be no need for any of these forums, as there would be nothing you could say that everyone else didn't already agree with. You don't know where the boundaries are unless you push to find them; otherwise, life is just too boring. Oh, and I do not like the look of the coin, plus I wouldn't pay that much over the metal value on ANY new coin.
Actual commemorative coins are often priced with an additional premium that goes to a charity or organization associated with whatever's being commemorated. I wonder if that'll be the case with this one, and if so, where will the money go?
Nope, not interested. The Apollo 11 coin and the 1916 Anniversary coins are the only coins I have ever purchased from the mint.
Between the premiums and the shrunken diameters (and the non-full bands on the dime, what the heck, Mint?), I passed on the 1916 coins. Of course, I regret it to some degree now. I pretty much backed up the truck on the Apollo issues. I think I got only one of the two finishes for the silver pucks, but proof and unc for everything else. I do NOT regret any of those purchases.
Why do people have to immediately get so touchy over it? If you said you don't like him it wouldn't bother me. Half the country doesn't like him. I didn't feel like I was trying to sneak anything in to inflame the "apparent situation" but I guess I'll have to be more careful in the future! Not allowed to express an opinion on a politician featured on a new coin that the thread is about. Noted.
