Sorry to hear that. I do enjoy the buying and selling in my antique shop.

I don’t think I’d get rid of the whole collection, but there’s certainly pieces of it that I’ve considered parting with to free up some coin money. There’s a Walker short set in NGC / PCGS MS64+ that does not float my boat any more. I’ve even considered parting with my buffalo nickel date set.

Ah, who am I trying to kid? I’m not parting with ANY of my collection……that’s just crazy talk!

I have a similar problem. But I have spreadsheets with approximate values and hope she will figure things out. She's a smart woman, unless she gets dementia she'll be pleased.

This is how I do it too. Sell single coins and replace then with coins I like better. I slowly Curate a beautiful collection by strategic purchases and when I do make a mistake, once I realize it months or years later, I sell it and move on, even at a loss.

Easier than liquidating an entire collection and starting over from scratch, at least for me anyways.

I think it will with the graded collection. I will eventually unload the ungraded constitutional stuff when I feel my end is near. But I'm still a hoarder until the bitter end, unless I absolutely need cash.:p

I've sold out several times over my younger years out of necessity but wouldn't consider it now unless my situation was severely dire.

99% of my collection are silver or gold coins.

As gold and silver rise, if you were to just get spot silver or gold for them, you might take a 10% haircut but it is nowhere near the 30-50% haircut that an uninformed seller might have gotten 2-3 years ago.

I guess that's one good thing about the rise in gold and silver prices, for those of us who leave our collections to uninformed heirs. :D

Hopefully, my coins don't go to those losers for some time. :p

    I have 1500 AV/EL coins/ 140 Roman silver. Most are MS-EF+.
Like Linda Ronstadt sang, that will be the day.....NEVER.

Coins, like classic corvettes are awesome.

I guess I'm the outlier here because I believe starting all over allows one to strategize better the next time. So I sold most of my coin collection years ago to divert the money into other investments, and it paid off. So I bought back similar items, and I am aiming for better quality and grades, leading to less clutter. So, for example, rather than ordering a random 1926 Peace Dollar MS62 from Apmex, I'll check on eBay and order a blast white one even if for a little more money. So now I have more blast white Peace dollars, and less toned clutter. However, I have some non-numismatic collectibles that I just could not sell!

I call myself a borderline border but I know better. I have too much stuff, I have as n antique space, 2 storage units gif the shop and I still buy more. Add to that my collections and I’m a border, big time. Lol

Me, I knew when I was 8 that I like gold coins. By the time I turned 20, my quality standards changed, I ONLY wanted perfect coins. So, I was stupid and bought FM Proof sets and such. When I hit 30, I went to the "enlightened" side and from then only collected classical gold, electrum, high quality, thus I would change nothing. Taste stays the same, when I was in school my fav. car was the 67 vette. Still my favorite car today. However, I went to the "cheap" side and bought a brand new 58 vette restomod:D IMG_2539.JPG IMG_2542.JPG IMG_0687.JPG IMG_0688.JPG

I have several proof coins that had an exceptionally low run one is under 200 and one is 87 both in PCGSPR70CCAM and have several other with similar mintages so some of these would be extremely hard or impossible to replace !! so no you cant steal my collection...LOL

well, I would empty the SDB ... save a bunch of money over time.
I probably would not start over though. Too old for that and thinking of how I can take it with me (hint: melt it all and make a casket out of it .. or plate a casket). Of course I would need a few Ka statues for protection.
maybe I would use the money to build a small pyramid in my backyard (probably out of Legos) ....
