The post man delivered a coin that I've been waiting a little over a month for today, and I'm excited to finally be able to share it. This is a post-semilibral(Crawford 41) uncia, not a terribly rare coin but an interesting single-denomination single-die variety with a pair of dolphins at the keel instead of the line pattern, waves or empty space that are normally seen on the keel of the galley on the reverse of these types. Except for the dolphins, the style and details of this type are entirely consistent with other unciae of the series so it doesn't seem that this type was minted at another mint or anything like that and I think it was probably just a little stylistic flourish added by the engraver. What a great find! Fantastic. I really like the Dolphins. Usually the Unciae are pretty "bland", but that feature is pretty cool. I have these Unciae from this approx time period (only a couple years difference!) Yeah, during that NASTY Hannibal War period! This may need to be dipped in @YOC 's or @Pishpash doo-dah sauce! Very nice coin red_spork, and added bonus of dolphins on keel, they are a nice coin for a lower denomination I have the Uncia a few years earlier, the main difference is Roma looking left. AE Uncia 217-215 BC, 24mm, 11.8gm, Crawford 38/6.
Fantastic variety! I hate to say it but wit some of the results I've seen here...I think that might be a good idea. Of course only if they thought it was wise and agreed.

it's a nice lookin' coin RS! republican coins are one of the weak spots in my collection. i actually bid on a galley/roma uncia recently bust lost.
