Playing catch-up. (Our type for today is the Kennedy half Silver (1964).)
My cousin took me up to the attic of his old farmhouse where he had some of our family heirlooms. He fished out an ancient leather coin purse that had a few well-worn large cents and some other stuff. He felt I should have this, since no one in my family had any of our family’s heritage.

I have one of these, but it is not shown in my spreadsheet and I don’t have any photos - except for its appearance in a shot of my type set back in 2020. Where did it come from?

    Psst! ;)

Hey, @RonSanderson - you are never going to catch up at the rate you're going. Why don't you just skip to the current type that's in play, and go from there? All that out-of-sequence stuff is confusing. Now you've got @SensibleSal66 posting Seated dimes, when we're supposed to be in the Kennedy half dollars!

Or maybe continue playing catchup if you like, but stick as many of your catchup coins as you can into a single post? I did like the story of the old coin purse from the attic, though. Sounds like one of those classic "Grandma's estate" yarns you used to see in eBay listings, but yeah... it really happens sometimes. Fun when it does.

Good morning. It is Thursday, March 12th.

Today we continue with the Kennedy halves, and our type for the day is the Kennedy Half Dollar Clad (1965-Date).

Now, I don't know about the physical Dansco 7070 album (I haven't had one of those in a few years), but note that the Registry type set lineup we're working from does not distinguish the silver clad (1965-69) Kennedies from the later (1970-present) copper-nickel clad subtype.

So you may post any 1965 or later Kennedy half with the regular design. NOT the Bicentennial half, though. That type comes much later in the lineup- and out of sequence. You see, the three types of Bicentennial coins are represented much farther down in the "album" lineup. We will get to them after we've done all the gold coins.

I presently own no post-1965 Kennedy halves except in my change jar. Here are two that I used to own.

I had this one as part of a never-completed 1965 SMS (birthyear) set I was working on. I sold it but would like to find another with attractive toning someday.

Here is one from my ancient Registry type set from 20+ years ago (you know, the one with all the wretched scans for images. LOL) This is likely my all-time "best of type" example, as I do not recall ever owning a PR69- or -70 DCAM.

Oh boy, lol. Just pretend it's a Love token. That will be okay, okay? :wacky:

It IS a love token. But we're doing Kennedy halves today, not Seated dimes!

(And your reverse photo is upside-down, BTW.)

We did the Seated dime types on February 14-16, nearly a month ago. Stick with the program, please! This isn't just a random "post anything you want to" thread. It has a structure, you see...

Alas, I tried to make it clear what I was doing. Perhaps that’s not possible. (But I do like a bit of confusion in the forum from time to time.) I have an idea about catching up all at once. I’ll try it later and see.

Again, I have the coin (1982-S PR69 DCAM) but no quality photos. For these recent types, I went online and just bought the Kennedy’s, clad quarters, Sac’s, and Ike’s, then stuffed them in the album. Don’t get me wrong. They’re very nice, but still commodities you can buy in bulk and cheaply.

Here a screenshot from 2020. The thread shows my type set being assembled, and shows a lot of coins I have not caught up with here. I had fun reading it again.
