I visited the coin shop today to stop by and drop off some delicious food as a first small gesture of thanking him for having sold me the steel cent error coin I recently posted. When asked if they he liked cheese steaks before, both he and his helper said yes, so I asked him yesterday what they liked on them and brought them fresh and hot for lunch today. They were large cheese steaks, which is a bit of an understatement (they're huge), and they were both very happy with their food. Fast forward a bit to me now checking out his wares, and he brought over a fairly large selection of coins (just to look at) he's sending off for grading. Those were some very nice coins in flips awaiting sending. Amongst them was a '55 DDO, a few '09-S VDB's, one each proof Barber and Seated quarters, a Charlotte quarter eagle, a bunch of other goodies, and... the '78 Morgan that I was eyeing up the last time I was there. Now, as you might have guessed from the title here, he was kind enough to offer to sell it to me today so I gladly bought it. This is probably the nicest looking '78 Morgan I've seen so far, and a lot of it is because of this beautiful toning. I've got a few toners, but this one takes the cake! I usually stick to blast white to mottled silver looking coins when it comes to filling out my Morgan albums, but I'm definitely coming around on toners lately and this one sure is pretty. Sorry for the jittery gif below, it's only my first time of making one. Any tips on bettering that would be much appreciated. Thanks!
For me it played just once then stopped. I exited the thread and reentered and quickly went to the gif to see it again.
Oops! It times out after a few seconds. If you refresh the page it should work lol. Sorry about that!
I think this might be a VAM-224 (168 Reeds, Hitlist 40 VAM) too, but it's really tough to see through the toning. Here's a shot of the edge compared to another '78 (P) VAM-79. I'm terrible at trying to line up the reeds to decipher the spacing. My eyes don't want to cooperate sometimes. But I'm pretty sure I'm seeing at least some of the die markers for it.
