I've been looking at too many fakes on eBay.

    This listing just came up:

1971 Eisenhower Dollar $1 Circulated US Coin Uncertified

I looked at the thumbnail and thought, "oh, great, another modern Chinese fake". Then I realized I was looking at a clad Ike, not even MS. Sure, they'll fake anything, but at this point I think I'm just seeing fakes even where they aren't. Or am I?

That is definitely a suspicious obverse, not as much the reverse but still fishy. And $25? I'd sell a real one in that condition for $1.75 at most.

The sellers last feedback was from over a year ago, and they have 3 ridiculous listings. I'm thinking Chinese fake and a recently hijacked account

They don't have to be Chinese to have ridiculous listings. A few months ago one seller had 5 off the chain listings. One was a clad beat up Washington quarter for sale for $2500. It's hard to know if those sellers are mentally challenged or just trolling.

Oh, wow, I didn't even look at his other listings! Is that a counterfeit 1984-P quarter? :banghead: Or has he just mastered the art of photographing real coins to make them look like fakes?

Just another scammer pretending their cup holder coins are worth big bucks. The other edge photos of that quarter definitely show the copper clad layer. I'm not aware of any Chinese counterfeits that went to the trouble of using actual clad planchets. Edit: if you read the description, it's the super rare (not) filled in mint mark.

Now I want to see if I can figure out how to make ordinary pocket change look like a Chinese counterfeit in photos. Bad lighting and focus will probably help, but it's only a start. Got to figure out how to simulate that fake patina as well.
