Hi, i was just going through a box of the 2017 pennies and i ended up finding a lot of pennies with die cracks on the reverse shield but i managed to find one with what appears to be a die crack right infront of lincolns face. What im trying to figuer out is if it is actually a die crack and if so if it would be worth anything?
It doesn't look to be a die crack to me, but perhaps a stain of some sort. It's hard to tell for sure from your photo due to the glare and angle. That said, even if it was a die crack, best case value would be minimal overall. Most would consider it worthy of no premium whatsoever.
@RyanLezette I'm surprised you wasted your time searching the box (if they were all 2017-P). Rumor has it that the boxes have been selling for quite a premium on FleaBay. By the way, welcome to the neighborhood! Chris
I appolgize for the glare. Is this any better? I tried to hit it at a angle that can show it being raised as it is
The image you posted is less than 200 K in file size. Can you post much larger pix? I don't mean include additional background clearly not useful. The forum upload software will accept much larger and compress them to 2M, which is 10 times the size you currently have uploaded. I cannot see sufficient detail in your pix upon which to base a meaningful or certain opinion.
It's ridiculous. I saw a box last night, 5 hours left, the bid was over 80 bucks. Looks like most are going around a hundred a box.
An unopened box closed 1-31-17 for 44.32 shipped. The market went soft in February with very few fetching anything like the 200 bucks, to several at 650 in January and Febraury, downhill after 02-13-17.... The going rate right now for ten rolls is 35 shipped and people are buying for now. Currently, $99 BIN with free shipping is up and everything else with much lower, $25 starting bigs, are auction style only listings. They'll be $25/box very soon and people with way too much money they never worked one second to have will still be paying five figures for 30-year-old Nikes that somebody has worn.
I bought a box on E-bay for $68.00 with free shipping. I have gone through each roll and have fund a treasure trove. Six different errors. The best is a die crack the starts at the eyebrow and forms a "Y" on Lincoln's forehead with a die chip at the junction. The right side of the Y goes into the hairline with a die chip at the hairline and circles to the back of his head. On the reverse, the seems to be a die gouge that starts in the upper portion the the first ribbon in the field of the shield just below the E in the motto, This extends to the left and looks like a spike. I have taken photos but can"t figure out how to post them. Off the 2500 coins I have looked through, I have close to 750 errors. I live on the West coast and we do not see many P minted coins. So when the 2017P coins first came out, I set out to get some. Like I said, a treasure trove.
