I found this one extremely interesting. Has doubling on the left column toward the lower end, and also doubling and what would be our right but Lincoln's left leg. USMC60 ct3-6-9.jpg

I'm thinking a small Die Chip between the column. Lincolns bay.

It's possible (Lincoln), and such anomalies on the column are often accepted as doubling today.

Not my best work on the pics. As you can see by the full photo of the reverse good old Lincoln's memorials really not that sharp as you can see in the close-up. And the doubling on the lower column is a small specimen. I'll try and get some better pics of Lincoln's leg. Not really happy with that one or the other one really.:(:snaphappy::blackalien:

There were several in this year with doubling at the legs and the pillar. I believe those with the doubling at the legs were also "Best of Variety". Wexler has them all listed. 2005P Lincolns were another year like 2009 for loads of doubled dies.

I wonder without concern for my wondering offending anyone; since single squeeze Class-9 Doubled Dies are quoted by Wexler to be attributable to "God only knows why", if some physical manifestations, as you are showing could possibly be due to that hot plastic zinc doing battle with the likely not-plastic copper bonded to it. The thermal shock is quite significant. The gain is instant and the cooling is rapid.

If so, the next questions would be:

    1) could it be proven? yes

    2) proven without destructive testing? no ways that I have come to think of although hitting them with xrays and a spectrograph may be fun. Maybe even ultrasound may provide some clues.
