I picked this up along with a 1960 Washington, both proofs. A couple bucks each. Now I wonder and with your expertise, is it a real piece or not. I've weighed it and I do know it should weigh 5.67 grams but my scale is not exact. Any thoughts and should I get a scale that is precise ?
Not an expert but at first glance the 6 didn't look quite right. Just a feeling. I would defer to the real experts though....
The weight is a bit on the low side, but for comparison use a simple balancing scale. If they are the Real McCoy you did good at a couple bucks each.
Real or not how can you complain for a couple of bucks? I doubt if any counter fitter would attempt to make a Coin of this value for the consequences. Dave
A Proof is a tough row to hoe for a counterfeiter. It's one of the reasons I'm not lacking confidence in this coin's originality.
The first thing I did was weigh it but you know these days we buy with knee jerk reactions then question our reasoning. The piece just looked really good and I needed it for my book.
Be very careful with a magnet. You don't want to create small marks or scratches on a nice looking Proof.
