I am getting ready to submit some coins to NGC and cut the mylar for the 1964 Kennedy half dollar and to my surprise I did not cut to well so I had to remove the coin. Was I surprised as the coin was much nicer than it looked inside the mylar. My question has to due with accented hair. What does that mean and how do you tell if your coin has it? Thanks!
wow that is very intresting i have never even heard of that varity before. thanks for the info!:smile
thanks for the info. I know what to look for now. Will the grading service automatically check to see if the coin is or is not accented hair?
Dave, As far as I know, no! With most TPG's, you have to ask for and pay for the attribution of any Variety and/or Error which means that they will check for it and if confirmed, they will then add the attribution to the label on the holder. Frank
I just received a gem proof 1964 Kennedy from my dealer, and I had to take another look at it based on this thread. Thanks to GDJMSP's post, I was able to confirm that I did in fact receive an "accented hair" variety. Finally, I got a good deal, thanks guys!
