So I somehow came across about 50 of these for 5 dollars total. I figure most of them are probably fakes, but I thought I could get lucky with one or two of them. Does anyone know anything about these coins and what they would be worth? The picture on the right is a closer view of some of them. Thanks, -Rob
Typical Chinese fakes. Check the weights, and most will be 2-6g light! If you paid an average of a dime apiece, you are one of the rare buyers of Chinese fakes who got close to his money's worth! Of course, that assumes you didn't have to pay any additional S/H.
are they silver? even if they are all fakes they are still kinda neet coins as i tell people who bring them over the counter at the shop go burry them in a sandbox somewhere and some kid will find them and maby get them into the hobby! good luck
No, these aren't even silver - just cheap nickel-copper but I guess that's roughly about the metal value. If these are genuine coins, some of them are excessively rare pattern coin and are worth easily 10 grand.
ok well that says it for you they are fakes i bet if you look at them under a 10 or 15X you will see the cast markes and bubbles sounds like a sandbox canidate to me.:smile
Thanks for your help! I figured they were fake, but I like how they look and $5 really isn't that much. Who knows, maybe one out of the fifty is real, but I wont get my hopes up. -Rob
I have some of these and mine are actually struck, not cast. You can see flaws in the copy dies, but they are well made from a technical perspective. Alloy if off, of course, as they are not silver. I paid about 50 cents each for mine - I'd buy a ton more if they were only 10 cents.
They make cool poker chips and golf markers too ~ it's just too bad far too many people have been misled thinking they were silver copies.... Here's one of the first tests.. get a magnet ~ if it sticks ~ not silver.
Back a few years ago, some dumb sellers were selling damaged dies pretty cheaply: Obviously they stopped selling such dies as this will expose them to their scamming production.
I believe that they are popping up cheap like this because they realize that they can't sucker high prices anymore. At 10 cents each they are worth the study value.
